Best Free Resources for SSC Preparation
A curated list of high-quality, completely free resources for SSC CGL, CHSL, and MTS preparation.
Preparing for the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) exams doesn't require a massive financial investment. In fact, some of the absolute best resources available today are completely free.
The challenge isn't finding material; the challenge is filtering out the noise. Here are the most effective free resources for SSC preparation.
1. Quantitative Aptitude
Math requires absolute conceptual clarity followed by intense practice.
YouTube Channels
- Gagan Pratap Maths / Aditya Ranjan Sir: Both offer extensive, free playlists covering the entire arithmetic and advanced math syllabus. Their "marathon" videos are excellent for rapid revision.
- Abhinay Maths: Excellent for understanding the core concepts of advanced mathematics (Geometry, Algebra, Trigonometry) without relying purely on rote memorization of tricks.
Practice Material
- Previous Year Questions (PYQs): The SSC repeats patterns aggressively. You do not need expensive proprietary question banks. Download the compiled PDFs of the last 4 years of SSC CGL/CHSL papers (available on numerous Telegram channels) and solve them multiple times.
2. English Comprehension
English in SSC is heavily weighted towards grammar rules, vocabulary, and reading comprehension.
Grammar
- Neetu Singh Vol 1 (Concepts): While the physical book costs money, many educators have created comprehensive, free YouTube series summarizing the exact grammar rules from this book. Search for "120 Rules of Grammar" videos.
Vocabulary
- Blackbook of English Vocabulary (Free PDF versions / YouTube summaries): For One Word Substitutions (OWS) and Idioms/Phrases, the previous year compilations are paramount.
- Daily Editorials: Read the editorial section of The Hindu or Indian Express online daily to improve your reading speed and contextual vocabulary.
3. General Awareness
This is the most unpredictable section. Do not waste 3 hours a day watching "Daily Current Affairs" videos.
Static GK
- Lucent's General Knowledge: The absolute gold standard. Again, while the book is paid, comprehensive audiobooks and chapter-wise breakdowns are freely available on YouTube. Focus heavily on History, Polity, and basic Science.
Current Affairs
- Monthly Compilations: Instead of daily videos, rely on monthly current affairs PDF compilations from platforms like Raviiti Study IQ or standard monthly magazines.
4. Reasoning
Reasoning requires very little theoretical study and almost entirely depends on practice.
Strategy
Do not watch hours of theory videos for reasoning. Learn the basic concepts for specific topics (like Syllogism, Calendar, Clock, and Counting Figures) via short YouTube videos.
For everything else, simply practice 50 questions daily from Previous Year Papers.
Do not chase new questions. An SSC aspirant who solves the last 4 years of PYQs three times will almost always outperform an aspirant who solves 10 different random mock test series once.
